The
*Cumbria archive service holds the unsigned (nuncapative) will of a George Barton of Ivegill, dated 1630. This is damaged across the top, and
extremely difficult to read throughout, but my best attempt at a transcript follows:
"praise of the god, In ............make this his last.... testament nuncapative in manner ????? following, that ????? ffirst he did comitt his soul into the hande of Allmighty god, his maker hopeinge assuredly throughe the onlye merits of Jesus Christ his savioure to be maide partaker of life everlastinge, & his bodye to be buried ???? in the Fine[??] Churchyard of Dalston; his debts legacies & funerall expenses discharged; And for his worldlye goods he did thus dispose of them. First he did give & bequeath unto Jane Seye[?] daughter of Barnard Seye[?] one Chist[?]. Item[?] he did give & bequeath unto Issabele Seye[?] daughter of the said Barnard Seye[?] another Chist[?]; All the rest of his goods & chattels moveable, & immoveable he did give & bequeath unto Barnard Seye[?] whome he did make whole Executor of this his last nuncapative will & testament. witnessed here of Thomas Harryson[?] ???? Seye[?], & John Seye[?] ?? ?????
